That was the headline as I set foot in the cme sp pit on March 8, 1996 for the first time ever, nearly 14 years ago. By the time the sp pit opened the 30 year bond was sinking and yields jumping by the most in nearly a decade to 6.72%. The spoos opened down hard and hit circuit breakers throughout the day. I stood witness to it, every smell, every shout and every spray of spit and sweat in the pit. I remember turning around on the escalator at the end of the day to see the guy behind me crying into his turned up trading jacket sleeves, and I am still guessing it had nothing to do with a woman. One of the best days of my life even excluding the rest of the evening and weekend in Chicago! Today pales by comparison, there is always tomorrow...
